In 1917 Conrad was recruited by the military’s newly created Paranormal Research and Development branch as a reactionary measure upon discovering that both German and Russian military officials had started similar operations. Conrad was flown to England where he spent the next four and a half years and earned a parapsychology degree. Although the degree was from Edinburgh all of his research was performed at Oxford where he wrote his thesis: A Scientific Study of Consciousness-Related Physical Phenomena.

Upon graduating Conrad was informed that the Paranormal Research and Development branch was being disbanded due to the fact that since it’s founding five members committed suicide and no evidence of paranormal existence was ever found. Conrad was a little disappointed, but he had to admit that in all his research he had never encountered anything paranormal either, and had no idea what he could have possibly done for the military.

In the following year Conrad wrote some minor papers for psychological journals and was occasionally hired by other researchers for his knowledge. As his reputation grew he was able to get a job through the BoI to investigate ritualistic killings and other crimes thought to be tied to occults and religious fanatics. Conrad was given the title Paranormal Investigator because the BoI felt it was a more professional sounding title than Cult Specialist.

Because of his investigations he has angered more than a few people, as a result he always carries the PO8 Luger on his belt that he got while in England, and a cane sword that used to belong to his father. Conrad enjoys good cigars (maybe a little too much) and usually keeps a hip flask on him filled with something potent.
